Finding the Right Retirement Community Is Key to Reinvigorating One’s Best Self
The decision to move from one continuing care retirement community (CCRC) to another isn’t easy to make.
For retiree Enid Mantell, things just didn’t feel right at the first senior living community she chose as her new home. “I felt like I was in a rut,” she explained. At this stage of her life, she wanted an active social life and the 55-and-older community she was living in didn’t provide many opportunities for social interaction.
Enid wasn’t the only one whose community experience didn’t deliver on its promises: Barbara Thompson had a similar experience. “Where I used to live, everyone stayed in their own homes, we weren’t connected,” she said. “I wanted to live in a community where my neighbors are social and interested in socializing.”
Both women decided to look for a different senior living community, one that encouraged residents to maintain active and social lifestyles. According to the National Institute on Aging and additional research published in Biogerontology, remaining both active and social keep health issues at bay and make for happier people overall.
One Person, Seven Elements
Eventually, Enid and Barbara both chose to move to the same community, Meadow Lakes in East Windsor, New Jersey. Nestled among 100 acres of spectacular grounds – including a registered arboretum with mature, lush greenery and three scenic ponds – our campus looks and feels like an elegant retreat surrounded by nature.
To ensure residents are inspired to live their best life at Meadow Lakes, our CCRC uses a proprietary, whole-person approach to energizing the mind, body and spirit. Called LivWell, the comprehensive wellness program addresses the seven dimensions of a person’s well-being (physical, intellectual, emotional, social, environmental, spiritual, vocational) and incorporates these aspects into a customized plan based on each resident’s specific needs and interests.
Barbara was amazed at the residents’ level of involvement at Meadow Lakes compared to the first community she lived in. “Since moving here, I’ve met so many interesting and talented let’s-get-involved people from all walks of life,” she said. “When I’ve told this to people at other communities, they can’t believe how involved the residents are here—it makes a world of difference!”
Enid is also pleasantly surprised at how much more engaged she is at Meadow Lakes. “There is always something new to do and learn,” she said. “I enjoy the art classes here, which fulfill my creative needs, and have so many other programs and events to keep me active and social.”
Vibrant Living, Splendid Setting: This Definitely Isn’t a Typical Retirement Community
At Meadow Lakes, residents spend their days building friendships and engaging their minds, bodies, and spirits against the backdrop of a beautiful arboretum. Our continuing care retirement community in East Windsor, New Jersey, offers a spirit of connection between residents, staff, and nature that makes it just feel right.
In addition to a high standard of care and amenities, Meadow Lakes offers two options for maintenance-free, independent living: apartments with one or two-bedroom layouts, or bright, sunny cottages with two bedrooms. Our community is backed by Springpoint Senior Living, New Jersey’s largest provider of senior care.
