Quick Summary: Springpoint and Parker Health Group received the Excellence in Innovation award from LeadingAge New Jersey & Delaware for the Affordable Housing Wellness Initiative. The program brings Springpoint’s award-winning LivWell approach to residents of affordable senior housing communities, expanding opportunities for physical activity, social connection, lifelong learning, and personal well-being. The initiative has grown to include four additional communities, with more than 185 residents enrolled and a long-term goal of reaching all 19 Springpoint affordable housing communities in New Jersey.
Wellness has been part of the Springpoint story for years. At Meadow Lakes, it can look like an exercise class, a walk through our arboretum, an educational program, time spent with friends, or simply having the freedom to choose how you want to spend your day.
That idea of choice is central to LivWell, Springpoint’s award-winning wellness philosophy. It recognizes that living well isn’t about following one prescribed routine. It’s about having opportunities to pursue the activities, relationships, and experiences that matter to you.
Now, Springpoint is bringing that philosophy to more older adults through its Affordable Housing Wellness Initiative.
Springpoint and Parker Health Group received the Excellence in Innovation award from LeadingAge New Jersey & Delaware for the initiative, recognizing its innovative approach to enhancing quality of life for older adults living in affordable housing.
For Meadow Lakes, the recognition is a meaningful reminder of something we see throughout our community: wellness can take many forms, and having opportunities to pursue it can make everyday life more rewarding. Wellness Has Always Been About More Than Fitness
Springpoint’s LivWell program takes a whole-person approach, with programming that supports physical, intellectual, emotional, and social well-being, along with other dimensions of a fulfilling lifestyle.
That philosophy has a long history at Meadow Lakes.
Our community has been part of Springpoint’s wellness initiatives and research for years. More than 80 residents from Meadow Lakes and Monroe Village participated in a successful aging study designed to measure strength, balance, and functional independence.
After approximately 18 months, the study found a reduction in fall risk along with significant improvements in participants’ strength and balance scores. The findings were later published in the Journal of Aging and Physical Activity, providing encouraging evidence of the potential benefits of structured wellness and exercise programming for older adults.
Today, our LivWell program continues that commitment to evidence-informed wellness, giving residents opportunities to work toward their individual goals while staying active, engaged, and connected.

Expanding Wellness to Affordable Senior Housing
Springpoint serves older adults through various communities, each designed to meet distinct housing and lifestyle needs.
The Affordable Housing Wellness Initiative extends LivWell programming to residents who live in Springpoint’s affordable housing communities.
The initiative launched in 2021 as a three-year pilot, giving residents at four Springpoint affordable housing communities access to LivWell programming for the first time. Before the initiative, LivWell was only available to residents of Springpoint Life Plan Communities.
In 2024, Parker Health Group renewed its partnership with Springpoint and expanded the initiative to four additional communities.
More than 185 residents are currently enrolled, with a long-term goal of bringing the program to all 19 Springpoint affordable housing communities throughout New Jersey. This expansion matters because wellness opportunities shouldn’t be limited by the type of housing someone chooses.
What This Means for Senior Affordable Housing in NJ
A home provides a foundation, but community life can offer much more.
For people living in senior affordable housing in NJ, access to programs that encourage movement, learning, and social connection can add another dimension to daily life.
The Affordable Housing Wellness Initiative gives residents opportunities to participate in experiences that support personal choice, lifelong development, and an overall sense of well-being.
That could mean trying an activity for the first time, discovering a new interest, or simply spending time with neighbors. The goal isn’t to tell people what wellness should look like. It’s to give them more opportunities to decide what living well means for themselves.
Why Choice Matters as We Age
One of the most important parts of the LivWell philosophy is choice.
At Meadow Lakes, residents have the freedom to decide how involved they want to be. Someone might spend the morning exercising, while someone else may prefer a class, a creative activity, time outdoors, or a conversation over coffee.
Springpoint’s LivWell materials describe the program as a way to create personalized opportunities based on residents’ interests, needs, and goals. That philosophy carries through to the Affordable Housing Wellness Initiative.
Instead of treating wellness as a checklist, the program creates opportunities for residents to find the experiences that are meaningful to them.
A Nonprofit Approach to Expanding Quality of Life
Springpoint is a nonprofit organization with more than 100 years of experience serving older adults. That mission extends across the organization, including its Life Plan Communities, affordable housing communities, and other services.
Our nonprofit senior housing communities are part of that larger commitment.
The Affordable Housing Wellness Initiative demonstrates how Springpoint can use its experience, resources, and partnerships to extend programming beyond the traditional Life Plan Community model.
It also reflects the role of the Springpoint Foundation and partnerships such as the one with Parker Health Group in supporting programs that enhance quality of life.
Recognition for a Growing Idea
LeadingAge New Jersey & Delaware presents its Excellence in Innovation award to recognize innovative best-practice programs or services that promote and enhance quality of life for older adults, staff, or the surrounding community.
The Affordable Housing Wellness Initiative received that recognition because it applies an established wellness philosophy to a new population.
And the program isn’t finished growing. With more than 185 residents enrolled and the goal of eventually reaching all 19 Springpoint affordable housing communities, the initiative has room to continue expanding its impact.
For Springpoint, that’s what makes innovation exciting. A good idea becomes even more meaningful when it can reach more people.
