Senior Living: The Perfect Time to Expand Your Horizons
Participating in activities and exciting opportunities to fill our days is important for our well-being, especially as we age. In fact, people who have more social and active lives are healthier and live longer than their sedentary peers, according to a 2016 Psychology Today article.
Meadow Lakes resident Fred Koved has always loved traveling with friends and family, even after retiring. And when he moved into the continuing care retirement community (CCRC) Meadow Lakes, he had no intention of scaling back or changing anything about this – except perhaps for the addition of new travel companions – and that’s exactly what happened.
Today Fred is an active member of the Travel Group at Meadow Lakes, which, as the name suggests, provides residents with the tools and resources to plan trips to destinations of their choice and then experience them together as a group. Most recently, the group took a cruise on the Queen Mary to England. Fred loved it, of course. “Everything was taken care of for us from Meadow Lakes to New York to London and back,” he explained. “It was a wonderful time.”
According to Fred, the group has also explored areas much closer to home. “We’ve toured restaurants and attractions in New York’s Hudson Valley and the Finger Lakes via a custom motor coach,” he said. “And a group favorite was our trip to New England, where we attended a performance by the Boston Symphony, a stage performance and several museums.” A future trip is in the works to trek to the Brandywine area in Pennsylvania to visit Longwood Gardens, The Wyeth Museum and other area attractions.
Oh, the Choices You’ll Have!
Fred isn’t the only one living at Meadow Lakes with a full “dance card.” That’s because our CCRC offers a robust schedule of programs and activities throughout the year. If traveling isn’t your thing, you can spend the afternoon learning a new skill in the stained-glass studio, attending a presentation by a noted astronomer or playing a competitive game of croquet on the campus lawn.
All Meadow Lakes residents are inspired to live their best through LivWell, an innovative wellness program. LivWell provides each resident with a personalized holistic plan that features the many amenities and programs offered onsite and beyond. While individual plans are unique, the bottom line is that residents have the opportunity to fill their days by engaging their minds, bodies and spirits through exciting and social activities.
